Objectives: This programme of study is intended to enhance the all-round language and communication skills of those who wish to work or study more effectively in an international context and to make maximum language gains during their time with us. Students will improve their language skills and consider factors affecting inter-cultural communication. Participants will also have the opportunity to establish relationships and share points of view with international colleagues.
This 4-week elective course combines English learning with professional barista training. Students develop both language and practical café skills through classroom instruction and hands-on sessions. With a focus on real café communication, graduates are equipped to confidently apply for barista positions in English-speaking environments.
English Classes (Afternoon):
Improve English communication skills specific to the café and hospitality industry.
Learn coffee theory — including coffee history, bean types, and brewing methods.
Explore café vocabulary and customer interaction through role-play and teamwork.
Practical Experience (Hands-on):
Gain real-world barista experience using commercial espresso machines at the OHC café.
Practice making popular drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos, and americanos.
Receive guidance on latte art, beverage presentation, and café workflow.
Career Skills (Professional Focus):
Learn how to create a café-style résumé and prepare for barista job interviews.
Understand workplace English used in cafés and hospitality settings.
Earn the OHC Barista Certificate upon completion of the program.
The OHC Food Handler training program supports ESL speakers, as well as those with a strong domain of English in learning and recognizing the importance of food safety in Ontario.
The program is designed for those who are looking for jobs in restaurants, and kitchen jobs in particular.

You will have a personalised OHC English program based on a strategic needs analysis by OHC.
You choose how many lessons you will have and on which topics and areas of language you would like to focus, depending on your personal objectives; for example, you may wish to improve your conversational English, to concentrate on your grammatical accuracy or develop your ability to read and write in English. We provide bespoke classes based on a General English or any English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program that you wish.
